Unveiling the world's first 2TB microSD card

Tokyo/Private:

No recognized memory manufacturer has been able to create a functional 2TB micro SD card suitable for sale to the public.  Not even Samsung and SanDisk, with all their experience in this area, are able to offer 2000GB micro SD cards.  However, there is a little-known company that has made it happen.

Kioxia, a Japanese company seemingly new to the field, but with an excellent memory catalogue, has announced the Kioxia Exceria Plus G2 2TB, which becomes the world's first 2TB micro SD card.  While it is true that some store sellers like  Amazon and AliExpress claim to have a 2TB micro SD card, this is the first time that a reputable company has launched a micro SD card with this capacity.

If you don't know Kioxia, we don't blame you because it's a company that was created very few years ago (in 2018).  However, this Japanese brand has a lot of experience, as it is actually the former division of Toshiba Memory Corporation.  In fact, the company was credited with inventing flash memory back in the day when it was part of Toshiba.

Kioxia is currently 56% owned by Bain Capital and 41% owned by Toshiba.  So you can be sure that Kioxia is a serious brand and they are not lying to us when they say that they have the world's first 2TB micro SD card.

Mass production of the Kioxia Exceria Plus G2 2TB card has already been announced and the company says it will go on sale in the first quarter of 2024. However, Kioxia has not revealed the regions where it will sell this new card or its price.  .

The card has a read speed of up to 100MB/s and a write speed of up to 90MB/s.  This card is made by stacking sixteen bricks of 1TB 3D flash memory.  Kioxia was able to achieve this result while maintaining the maximum specifications thickness of 0.8 mm.

Keep in mind that the highest capacity micro SD you can buy currently is 1.5TB which costs around $173.  Therefore, the price of the Kioxia Exceria Plus G2 2TB should reach $200 or higher.  But this is just speculation on our part because the price depends on the manufacturing cost, which we do not know at all.
