Today, Thursday, the Sultan's Palace in Malaysia announced the appointment of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, who is scheduled to be sworn in at 5:00 pm local time.
"The appointment was reached by a special meeting of the Malay kings and sultans at the National Palace this morning," said National Palace Supervisor Ahmed Fadel Shamsuddin.
The royal palace issued a press statement stating that "opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has been appointed as the tenth prime minister of Malaysia."
And at the end of last week, the opposition "Pakatan Harapan" (Coalition of Hope), led by Anwar Ibrahim, won 82 seats in the House of Representatives out of 222, compared to 73 for the "Perikatan Nasional" national alliance led by former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
