The dollar fell to near a nearly four-year low against the euro on Monday, amid growing market optimism about U.S. trade agreements, which reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates sooner.
The dollar continued its decline against the pound, approaching a four-year low, and also hit its lowest level in more than a decade against the Swiss franc.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback's performance against six major currencies, including the euro, sterling, and Swiss franc, rose slightly by 0.1 percent to 97.276, but remained close to the more than three-year low of 96.933 reached at the end of last week.
The euro was slightly lower at $1.1716, while the pound was steady at $1.3709.
The dollar was steady at 0.7988 Swiss francs and 144.58 Japanese yen.
