President El Alimi arrives in Egypt to participate in the Climate Summit

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohamed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived today, Sunday, in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, to participate in the 27th Climate Summit, which will start tomorrow, Monday, under the auspices of the United Nations.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council and his accompanying delegation were received at Sharm El-Sheikh Airport by the Egyptian Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

The President is scheduled to deliver Yemen's speech at the summit, in which he will review the negative effects of climate change on environmental resources, the economy, sustainable development, the deterioration of livelihoods in Yemen and the significant damage caused by tropical cyclones and alternating periods of drought in many Yemeni cities.

The President will also participate in a number of round tables and provide interventions on food and water security, and he will participate in the Green Middle East Summit launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to the risks of climate change, and the international efforts required to help Yemen and developing countries to confront those challenges.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and his accompanying delegation will discuss urgent international funds estimated at about 147 million dollars to face the effects of climate change in Yemen, within global commitments to support developing countries by about 100 billion dollars annually in accordance with the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Summit.

The Conference of the Parties is the highest international decision-making authority under the United Nations Framework Convention, which meets annually to review and strengthen collective efforts to address the effects of climate change in the world, and more than 190 countries participate at the level of leaders and heads of government.

The Yemeni delegation participating in the summit includes Director of the Presidency Office Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak, Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Deputy Director of the Presidency Office for Economic Affairs Ahmed Al-Essa, Yemeni Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt Dr. Muhammad Marem, and a number of of those responsible.
