A military deal between America and India worth $4 billion

Washington - Agencies:

The United States of America has approved a deal to sell advanced drones to India worth $4 billion, which enhances the military capabilities of New Delhi, whose cooperation with its American partner is increasing.

After discussions that lasted for several months, the US State Department announced in a press statement that it had informed Congress about the deal, which includes 31 “31MQ-9B Sky Guardians” aircraft, the most advanced among the “Predator” aircraft manufactured by General Atomics.

The statement explained that the proposed deal will improve India's capabilities in confronting current and future threats by activating surveillance and reconnaissance patrols with drones in the sea lanes of operations.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) said in a statement, "It has submitted State Department approval with the aim of notifying Congress of this potential sale."

The statement added, "The deal will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the strategic relationship between the United States and India and improving the security of a major defense partner that continues to be an important force for achieving political stability, peace, security, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific region and South Asia."

For his part, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller explained in a press briefing that the United States’ provision of drones, ammunition, and equipment to India would provide it with an enhanced ability to maintain maritime security.
