President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohamed Al-Alimi, met yesterday, Tuesday, the Director of World Bank Operations, Axel Van Trotsenburg, on the sidelines of the 27th Climate Summit, hosted by the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
The meeting touched on the interventions of the World Bank in the development, service and humanitarian fields, and ways to benefit from additional funds to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, which were made by the terrorist Houthi militia backed by the Iranian regime, as well as other files, including efforts to avoid a possible oil spill from the Safer reservoir.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the importance of partnership with the World Bank Group, referring to the challenges and urgent financing needs, especially in the water, sanitation, and social welfare sectors, in addition to the interventions required to support economic and service reforms led by the Council and the government in various fields, including ways to confront pressures. Inflationary on the national currency and its humanitarian and living repercussions.
In the meeting, Trotsenburg affirmed the World Bank's commitment to support Yemen and its government in various circumstances, pointing to the volume of funds directed to service sectors, job creation, food security, and social protection.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, and the Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi.
