The Argentine national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, by defeating its counterpart, the Australian national team, with two goals to one, in the match that brought them together at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in the round of 16.
Messi scored the advance goal for Tango in the 36th minute.
In the second half, the Argentine national team strengthened its superiority with a goal scored by Julian Alvarez in the 57th minute.
Craig Goodwin narrowed the deficit by scoring the first goal for Australia in the 77th minute, to end the second half and the match with Argentina winning 2-1.
With this result, the Argentine national team qualifies for the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup to meet the Netherlands, and Australia leaves the tournament.
