In Mukalla, the results of a value-chain study for the henna and fish sectors were announced this morning, which was carried out by the Small and Micro Enterprises Development Agency (SMEPS) of the Social Fund for Development in the districts of Ghail Bawazir and Al-Shihr, as part of the SIERY project to enhance institutional and economic resilience in Yemen, which is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and funded by the European Union. In cooperation with the Agency and in coordination with the Ministry of Local Administration.
In his speech, the Director of the Social Fund for Development, Mukalla Branch, Dr. Awad Salem Laqsam, thanked all attendees for their participation in the workshop, which is considered one of the most important outputs upon which the development of local economies in society is based, stressing that the Social Fund for Development will be keen, during the coming months, to implement a set of studies for a number of Directorates in the province in several interventions.
For his part, Eng. Hussein Omar Al-Baiti, Acting Director of the Small and Micro Enterprises Development Agency, Hadramout branch, noted that two out of four studies carried out by the agency, which targeted the districts of Ghail Bawazir and Al-Shihr, will be reviewed, indicating that the agency has, since its inception, relied on studies based on its numbers. ; To identify sectoral gaps and build plans to address them, given that the agency also works in the fields of entrepreneurship and capacity building of the private sector.
Mr. Fahmy Awad Badawy, Assistant Undersecretary of Hadramout Governorate for Youth Affairs, praised the importance of partnership with the third sector and strengthening it and its prominent role in implementing projects that directly serve segments of society, stressing the support of the local authority in the governorate for economic development projects aimed at improving the living situation in addition to doubling efforts and doing more in Preparing studies and providing support in the agricultural and fisheries sectors in particular.
In general, the workshop aimed to publish the results of the studies for their community participation with actors in the two targeted sectors, and to inform the community about the importance of community studies and the need to respond to them and give actual and realistic answers to researchers in order to reach actual results in order to be able to discuss the actors about their roles in those targeted sectors in the future. The workshop aims to listen to the various opinions and difficulties experienced by the targeted sectors and come up with a summary of the proposals that would improve the level of production in them.
The workshop was attended by Mr. Salem Al Ataishi, Director General of the Directorate of Gail Bawazir, Mr. Omar Al-Asholi, Director General of the International Cooperative Planning Office in the coast of Hadramout, Mr. Maher Khan, Siri Project Officer for the private sector at the agency, Hadramout Branch, Ms. Mona Al-Amoudi, Officer of the Training and Institutional Support Unit of the Social Fund for Development Mukalla Branch, Mrs. Kholoud Shaker, Acting Director of the Private Sector, Mr. Fikri Al Maafa, National Coordinator for Economic Resilience in the SIERY Project, Mrs. Salah Babaridah, Director General of Planning and Development at the Arabian Sea Fisheries Authority, and a number of directors of executive offices in the governorate and the two directorates, and a group of representatives of the fisheries sectors agriculture, the private sector, and women entrepreneurs.
