Artyom Studnikov, Director of the First European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the supply of liquefied gas from Russia to France increased in the nine months of 2023 by 41 percent on an annual basis.
He added in an interview with RIA Novosti: “At the end of 2022, Russia became the second supplier of natural gas to France after the United States due to the import of Russian liquefied natural gas. In the period from January to September 2023, these French purchases from Russia exceeded 41 percent, compared to The same period in 2022.
Studnikov pointed out that the main receiving point for Russian supplies of liquefied gas is the Montoir du Bretagne terminal, which received 1.68 billion cubic meters in 2022, and 0.89 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas in the first half of 2023.
Earlier, the Telegraph newspaper reported, citing Eurostat data, that European Union countries bought more than half of Russia's LNG exports in 2023, with Spain and France becoming the second and third largest buyers of Russian LNG after China.
According to these data, Spain bought 1.8 billion euros worth of Russian LNG in the first nine months of 2023. France ranked second in the European Union in this indicator, as it bought Russian LNG for 1.5 billion euros. Belgium came in third place with purchases worth 1.36 billion euros.
Earlier, the American Bloomberg Agency reported that the State of Qatar had “temporarily” stopped transporting liquefied natural gas through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and this comes amid the military escalation taking place in the Red Sea region.
