Minister of Water and Environment Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi discussed, with the new resident representative of the United Nations Children's Fund "UNICEF" Peter Holz, the organization's interventions in water and environmental sanitation projects in Yemen.
The virtual meeting touched on a number of topics related to UNICEF's activities in the areas of water and environmental sanitation, according to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
The Minister of Water stressed the importance of focusing on developing projects related to sanitation issues, while continuing the work related to rapid response and emergency work caused by floods, epidemics and water-borne diseases.
Al-Sharjabi stressed the critical importance of UNICEF's continued support to local water institutions and service providers with the necessary fuel to provide the population with water, given the large shortage of energy needed to extract water.
The Minister of Water pointed to the need to raise the level of powers and representation of the organization's office in Aden to become a central office for UNICEF in line with the size of the tasks entrusted to the office, whose scope extends from Socotra Governorate to the western coast.
Minister Al-Sharjabi welcomed the new resident representative of UNICEF, wishing him success in his duties, and praised the efforts of the former regional representative, Philippe Doamel, which contributed to redrawing the cooperation relationship with the government and enhancing joint coordination.
The representative of UNICEF valued the Ministry of Water's continuous support for the organization's activities in the field of water and environmental sanitation. He also stressed the continuity of the activities and projects implemented by UNICEF at a higher rate than before, raising the level of coordination with the Ministry of Water and Environment, and involving its institutions in the various stages of preparation and implementation of programs and projects.
