President Al-Alimi leaves Sharm El-Sheikh for Riyadh

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, and his accompanying delegation left today, Wednesday, the Arab Republic of Egypt, heading to Riyadh on a private visit on his way back to the temporary capital, Aden, after participating in the work of the 27th Climate Summit hosted by Sharm El-Sheikh.


The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council delivered Yemen's statement to the high-level UN summit, in which he reviewed the negative effects of climate change on livelihoods, environmental and economic resources, including the devastating damages of tropical cyclones and alternating periods of drought on many Yemeni cities.


The President also participated in a number of events and round tables, in addition to simultaneous meetings with world leaders, international organizations and funds as part of the unremitting efforts to benefit from funding initiatives to face the repercussions of climate change on food, water and livelihood security in Yemen.


In this context, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and his accompanying delegation discussed urgent international funds estimated at about 147 million dollars to confront the effects of climate change in Yemen, as part of global commitments to support developing countries by about 100 billion dollars annually in accordance with the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Summit.


The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council congratulated the leadership, government and people of the Arab Republic of Egypt on the success of the Manah Summit, which will continue its activities until November 18, and also renewed Yemen's support for all relevant regional and international initiatives, foremost of which is the Green Middle East initiative adopted by the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.


The Yemeni delegation participating in the summit includes the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak, Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, and Yemen's Ambassador to Cairo Dr. Muhammad Marem.
